The Monroe County Historical Association is a non-profit community organization dedicated to preserving the history of this northeastern Pennsylvania county.
Our offices are located in the historic Stroud Mansion, built in 1795 by the family that founded the borough of Stroudsburg, our county seat. The rooms of the Stroud Mansion are open to the public as a museum filled with exhibits and local artifacts from times gone by. In addition to the permanent displays, each year we offer a new exhibit of specific interest.
The mansion is also home to the Elizabeth D. Walters Library, a resource open to the public searching for local historical or genealogical information.
We also offer tours and educational programs at the Bell School, a one-room schoolhouse located in Cherry Valley that was in use up until 1953.
