Historical Society of Millersburg

The Historical Society of Millersburg & Upper Paxton Township was established on June 3, 1980 in order to foster interest in the history of Millersburg and vicinity, conduct research, collect, preserve, and display records and objects of art and historical significance, mark sites, acquire, preserve, and restore historic sites and pursue such activities as may be related to the history, culture and art of the community.

The three-story brick building at 330 Center Street that serves as headquarters for the Historical Society was purchased from the Borough of Millersburg in 1984 at public auction. This historic building was erected in 1919 to house the fire company apparatus on the first floor, a meeting room and borough offices on the second and a two-cell lock-up in the basement. The first floor of this historic building now houses the first permanent historic museum in upper Dauphin County and on the second and third floors, society offices, our library, and the society’s growing collection of local memorabilia, Native American and military artifacts. It also houses a genealogy library with books, cemetery records and microfilmed newspapers dating back to 1872. Our historical materials, photographs and the genealogical library are available to the public at no charge with staff assistance.
