Fayette County Historical Society

The Fayette County Historical Society was founded and incorporated in 1982. It was first organized as the Uniontown Area Historical Society but changed its name to reflect the need for a county-wide charter as had been incorporated in the 19th century by the Fayette County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Our mission statement reads:

“The purpose and objectives of the Society shall be to bring together those people interested in history, and especially in the history of the Fayette County, to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area; to provide for the preservation of such material and for its accessibility, as far as may be feasible, to all who wish to examine or study it; to co-operate with officials in insuring the preservation and accessibility of the records and archives of the county and of its cities, towns, villages, and buildings, monuments, and markers; to disseminate historical information and arouse public interest in the past; to co-operate with other active historical societies in the area.”
