The Antique Motor Coach Association of Pennsylvania

The Antique Motor Coach Association of Pennsylvania is a non-profit museum dedicated to the preservation of Pennsylvania’s unique city bus transportation systems. From the buses to the memories, routes and politics of transit, we record the history to preserve the full story behind the buses that served the area.

AMCAP was originally founded to preserve the quickly fading bus history of Western Pennsylvania. At the time, the last of the PAT acquired equipment was being sold and the founders wished to keep the bus where it belonged, in Pittsburgh.
Our collection is located at the former Brown’s Trucking garage in Portersville, PA. This is our first rented property and for the first time we have water and power readily available to assist us in the restoration and maintenance of our historic collection.

Currently we are more focused on the Pittsburgh area due to our location and information currently available to us but will be expanding the focus to the rest of Pennsylvania as we obtain additional information on the transit operations in the rest of the state.

Our mission is the preservation of not only a sampling of the equipment used by various Pennsylvania transit systems but also to preserve other aspects of city bus transportation such as photos, various paper items and other memorabilia of the operations. We also will be using this information to help educate the public about transit’s past as much can be learned from it and applied to current operations.

Our Web site is set up to help in our mission of education. In the past, and even to this day, much transit history information everywhere is stored in boxes, drawers, file cabinets and just about every other place you can think of where it is out of reach of most people. We wish to help get this information out to those who are interested in it and the Internet is an excellent method for making this available. We welcome both public and media inquiries regarding city transit history in the Pittsburgh area as well as the rest of Pennsylvania.

Plans for the future include the restoration of our equipment as well as a permanent transit library and visitor center to house our growing collection of buses and transit information.

Our museum is open between April and October on the First and Third Saturdays each month. We are open other times by appointment. Please e-mail info@amcap.org for more information.
