Some good news for small museums.A limited number of Technical Assistance Grants have become available for 2010.Apply now!
In addition to today’s challenging economic climate, small museums and historical organizations are challenged by limited staff, little time, and often few resources. What is abundant is passion and commitment to preserve artifacts and history.A Technical Assistance Grant can help your organization increase its capacity to fulfill your mission.
Administered by PFMHO and funded through PHMC, technical assistant grants (TAG) help small historical organizations and museums to acquire skills to better solve problems, increase the level of professionalism, and to build capacity to serve the public. This program is intended for Pennsylvania institutions with general operating budgets of less than $250,000.Grants have a maximum value of $1,500.
TAG funds can be used in three ways:
To pay honoraria and travel expenses for site visits and consultation between the institution and an appropriate professional expert.
To pay registration fees for staff to attend training workshops at which they will acquire skills helpful to the recipient organization.
To help pay matching or residual costs for a Conservation Assessment Program (Heritage Preservation CAP) or a Museum Assessment Plan (AAM – MAP).Reviews by other bona fide survey programs are also eligible.
Grant awards are paid directly to the individual consultant or organization providing the services.Applications may be made at any time throughout the year and reviewed by a panel on a quarterly basis. An organization may apply for and receive more than one TAG in a year, and a TAG does not preclude an organization from participating in other PHMC grant programs.Grant awards are subject to the annual availability of funds from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In order to determine if your museum or historical organization is eligible for a TAG, check the Grants section on the PHMC website.A complete overview of the program, its requirements, and its limits can be found here.
